Thank you for leaving pictures like this in my photobooth. When it's been a long couple of weeks, this is just what I need to find hidden away on my laptop. Now if you'll excuse me, I almost just peed my pants laughing...

Hubs'NEm's Quote of the Day
As I was about to call my mom last night, the hubs picked up her school picture from my dresser and said,
"Here, I'll hold this in front of your face while you talk. Then it'll be like video chat!"
It's not quite the same but he gets an "A" for effort.

Things My Husband Says
To the Dog:
"Too bad you don't have a USB port, Sammi. Then we could know what you're thinking."
Wow.

Sweet Hearts
The hubs and I had a bit of a sweet tooth the other night so he suggested a few marshmallows to curb the craving. As I was already lazy in bed with my book, he offered to bring me some - and this is what I got. Marshmallows arranged on a plate, drizzled with a chocolate heart and dusted with powdered sugar.
Too sweet.
Too sweet.

Happy Birthday, Hubs!
I'm a day late posting but wow, we've been busy this weekend! I hope your birthday was as productive as you wanted it to be and as relaxing as you needed it to be! Sorry we didn't have party hats this year... but we did have BBQ!
I love you so much and I'm glad you were born!

Hubs'NEm's Quote of the Day
While washing dishes a few days ago, I accidentally got a smaller glass stuck inside a slightly larger glass. I knew that heat or cold would make them expand or contract and could potentially solve my problem but I can never remember which does what and have a fear of broken glass... So I left them on the counter for the hubs to find and fix... eventually.
Tonight, the hubs simply placed the large glass in a pot of hot water and filled the smaller glass with ice.
Me: Wow. Neat. Did you google that?
Hubs: No. It's just physics.
Yeah, DUH.
"It's just physics."

Hubs'NEm's Quote of the Day
In a restaurant a while ago -
Hubs: Wow, that's a really small baby. With lots of hair.
Me: Mm-hmmm.
Hubs: Do they come with hair?
It was all I could do not to respond, "Yes, but the batteries aren't included."
Love that man! He certainly makes me laugh.

And he's a plumber, too.
You remember the other night when the hubs discovered he was a firefighter? Well, tonight he's being a plumber. We've had some water backup in our hallway bathroom and over the last week it got worse... and then even worse when we ran the dishwasher the other night. Let's just say you do not want to see the nastiness that has been stuck in our tub for a few days.
I'm so incredibly lucky to be married to a man who doesn't mind putting on his coveralls and crawling around under our house to snake pipes at 8pm after a full day of work.
And now he's cleaning the bathtub.
Definitely a keeper.

How I found out that I married a fireman.
My husband just ran out the back door, fire extinguisher in hand, where he leaped over our back wall to put out a fire in our alleyway. Our neighbors had somehow spilled (poured?) gasoline and it caught on fire (or were they trying to burn it off...?). They were tying to extinguish it with their garden hose but the gas and fire were just spreading - toward our back wall, the power pole, and dry brush that had collected in the corner. After using up our first household fire extinguisher, the hubs ran back inside for the second one and it did the trick.
Don't ask me why our neighbors were playing with gasoline... or how it caught on fire... 'cause I don't know. But I'm pretty sure the hubs just kept us from calling 911 and what could have been a very unpleasant situation.
Thanks, babe. It's nice to know I've got my own volunteer fireman!
And readers, however few of you there are, please please please be sure you have at least one of these in your home, somewhere easy to access - because you just never know.

Dear Hubs,
Thank you so much for taking such wonderful care of me while I was sick! I couldn't ask for a better nurse. There are few people who would go to the store every day for three days in a row because something else might help or I might want to eat something else (I never did).
I'm feeling much better and it's mostly thanks to you. And the Tylenol. And the Nyquil. And the movies with ladies in pretty dresses.
I am especially sorry for giving you all my germs. Now I guess it's my turn to be the nurse... Feel better soon! :-(
xoxo,
me.

Dear Hubs,
I'm sorry there are always sweet and yummy things in our fridge and freezer. I know you're trying to watch what you eat so just pretend that the pudding I just made isn't really there. It's like a mirage, ok? I'll take care of it.

Dear Hubs,
Thank you for always pulling over so I can take pictures, even when they don't turn out so good, and for turning the car around when I forget my camera's SD card in my laptop at home.
You remind me to slow down and take life less seriously and that's something I definitely need to remember.
Thank you for not making me feel pressured to work just because work presents itself but to look at the larger perspective of feeling fulfilled in life and finding happiness where I am and in what I'm doing. I need occasional reminders that we work so we can have a life; we shouldn't live for work, no matter how much we might love what we do.
And finally, thank you for indulging my strawberry shortcake craving. I'm still waddling around the house, I ate so much.
xoxo,
me

They're here! They're here!
Linda & Harriett have released their 2011 Letterpress calendar and it's gorgeous. I'm not buying one (yet) because I'm really hoping that someone (*cough* *cough* hubs!) gets me one for my birthday or Christmas.
But you better order now because they sold out by Thanksgiving last year! (hint! hint!)

And while you're at it, you might as well get one of their limited edition "To/From" stamps - they're absolutely darling and there aren't very many of them.
Please, pretty please!

UPDATE: Stamps are sold out. :-(
P.S.
Dear Hubs, I'm absolutely serious about this huge-o-mongous hint. Buy them now and you're done with Christmas shopping for me! And it's not even September! How awesome is that! :-)

Dear Hubs,
Thank you for not being mad at me when I laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed
at your attempt to make biscuits that were really pancakes to go with our rotisserie chicken.
Next time, we'll just turn them into waffles and have chicken and waffles like Roscoe's.
I must've been tired because it was way super funny. I'm still chuckling.

Dear Hubs,
You. Are. Awesome.
We couldn't have moved my grandpa this weekend without you. Despite the last minute work stress, you were 100% present when we needed your brains and your brawn and lucky for us, you have plenty of both.
Thanks to you and Champ, our mystery creature from Vermont U-haul, we made it in one piece.
You're the best company there is on the I-5 - south to north and north to south.

Dear Hubs,
The faux-hawk you're sporting (for no apparent reason) is frickin' rad. You should tell your hairdresser lady to cut it like that and then get some manly-smelling gel to hold it in place.
Then I'll buy you some of that manly-smelling body wash and you'll be all ready to head into the forest and kill us some meat.
Don't be surprised if I email you some some inspiration pics for your hair appointment next week - you could totally pull off a Jonathan Rhys Meyers/Michael Weatherly/Beckham kind of 'do.
Rock on.

Dear Hubs,
Thank you for going along with all my crazy shenanigans. Even when it means dressing up as farm animals and parading around in public. You're the best backside a cow could ask for.
You rock my cloven-hooves off -
xoxo,
me.
Quick background on these photos: We were participating in a nation-wide event known as Cow Appreciation Day. It's pretty simple: Dress up like a cow, get free food.
I heart Chick-Fil-A.
Many thanks to my dear friend, Autumn, for convincing me to try it in the first place. The sweet tea lured me in, the waffle fries and nuggets kept me coming back.
At the event - a lovely lady took these and posted them to the Oxnard Chick-Fil-A group on Facebook for us:

Aw, look at our pathetic little tail!

Hubs was super helpful stapling on the cow spots:
